Earthquake Hits Japan

A magnitude 7.1 earthquake hit the Japan coast 200 miles (320 kilometers) south-southwest of Tokyo today.

It’s crazy that Japan has faced both a typhoon and an earthquake on the same day. Not only that, but on this particular day. In case you didn’t know, today was the 64th anniversary of the atomic bomb that hit Nagasaki, Japan (Fat Man) in 1945. This past August 6th was the 64th anniversary of the atomic bomb (Little Boy) that hit Hiroshima, Japan.

Malaria on the Rise in India

There are 63 new cases of cerebral malaria in Munger, Biha in at least 80 villages. More than 600 local residents have tested positive for this disease.

Typhoons Hit Asia

Within the past few days, a couple of typhoons have hit the continent of Asia.

On August 7th, typhoon Morakot (Kiko) hit the Philippines. The typhoon was coupled with monsoon rains that in turn, caused flooding and landslides. As of this past Saturday, the death toll is up to 23.

The typhoon also caused a great amount of flooding in Taiwan. It’s seen as the worse flood that has happened there in fifty years. Three people were killed and many are missing and feared dead.

Today, it hit China with winds of up to 120 kilometers. Nearly one million people were forced to evacuate.

Also typhoon Etau hit Japan today, killing nine people.
